It can cause fast, irregular heartbeats (known as arrhythmia), which may trigger a sudden fainting spell, or in some cases, if the heart does not regain its normal rhythm it may cause sudden death. Many people with long QT syndrome have no signs or symptoms. When symptoms occur, they are generally caused by abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), most commonly a form of ventricular tachycardia called Torsades de pointes (TdP).
